Final Movie Review

The 1975 film Jaws directed by Steven Speilberg takes place in the New England tourist town Amity island. The police chief in this film Martin Roy wants to close the beaches after several shark attacks but the mayor Larry Vaughn will not allow it knowing the town will lose tourist revenue. A ichthyologist is played by the character Matt Hooper and a ship captain named Quint offer to help a man named Brody in hopes of killing or capturing the human eating shark. Many shark attacks take place over the course of this film making the pressure rise on this trio to get rid of the shark as fast as possible knowing that the mayor will not close the beach.

In this film I really liked a lot of the camera angles they used, for example during a shark attack or pretty much any scene were the shark was supposed to be the center of attention. The angle was a POV of the sharks vision as it swam below only seeing the legs and torso of this beasts victims. I also really liked the music they used in this film, as tension rised in the film so did the intesinty of the music. It really brought attention to . key scenes making it easy for the audience to follow the film and not miss anything. One of the few things I didn't like about the film were times when audio was difficult to understand but made sense seeing this is a old film which I later realized. I really liked how whenever there was a closs conversation between two individuals the camera angle was never looking at the both of them at once which stuck out to me seeing we learned about this early on in the class so nobodies back was ever to the camera. The films introduction really stood out to me seeing it starts off as the sharks POV underwater at night giving off a creepy vibe setting the tone for the rest of the film which I found very important.

Lastly, I would definitely recommend this film. I was one of few from who I know that had not seen this film which was quite shocking to most people. This film really had me engaged in what was happening and I honestly never felt bored watching. The music used to hold the suspense of the film is a huge reason of why I would recommend this film. The music played such a big role in the film making it much more enjoyable and easy to follow for the audience. The films plot was very interesting and almost relatable seeing the crowds and summer fun that took place over the 4th of July in this film. This film was hard for people to watch when it first came out making people literally not want to swim in the ocean but I feel as time has gone on the audience for the film has expanded as the idea behind this man eating shark becomes more and more fictional. Overall I would definitely recommend this film to the few who are yet to watch it. Paying close attention to details and reflection on them made this film much more interesting and enjoyable.
